Landscape Design & Consultation Services
We offer a range of landscape design and consultation services, either here at the nursery or on site at your location. See below for details. Please use our Request a Consultation form to schedule an appointment. Our printable Design Questionnaire (PDF) can be helpful but is not required.
Get general plant help at the nursery
Our experienced sales staff can help you make educated plant choices when you come to shop or peruse. The more information you can share with them, the better they can help you make appropriate selections. Sun exposure, soil type, deer pressure, irrigation methods, color preferences, mature height and width needs/limitations, and overall size of your space are just some considerations to be aware of.
Dropping in and working with staff is limited to availability and busyness (customer volume).
Knowledgeable staff are here to help you find what you’re looking for across our 7+ acres of locally grown plants, shrubs and trees suited to our region.
Dedicated consultation at the nursery
For more extensive assistance, we offer one-on-one, 55-minute landscape design and consultation sessions with one of our landscape design staff by appointment only. This is a great service if you have a small garden bed or project that you need advice on. We can also help with interpreting or adjusting a set of plans.
In one of these sessions, we can typically do quick sketches, formulate a plant list or offer planting and maintenance advice. A 55-minute session is $40 and is available by appointment only. We request that you provide measurements, sketches, photos, site conditions (like sun exposure and soil) and any other information that may be pertinent for a successful consultation. Our Design Questionnaire (PDF) can be helpful but is not required.

Christie has done many designs, consults and volunteered installations of school gardens at Rogue Valley local schools, including Mae Richardson Elementary, Jewett Elementary, Logos Charter School, D.I.R.T. Park, and Crater High School. One of our passions is getting kids into gardening spaces and outdoor environments for hands-on learning. We have taught classes on the subject and ways to engage kids in the outdoor classroom.
We have also designed pollinator gardens for the City of Central Point, Monarch Waystations, private landowners, wineries, and HOA’s.
After five years it was time to give our patio a face lift. We want to send out a heartfelt thank you to the crew at Shooting Star Nursery, my personal favorite place for plants in the entire valley! With their exemplary plant knowledge and amazing plant selection we are ready for another five years. Whether you are a master gardener, novice gardener, or just looking for a beautiful place to explore, head out to Central Point.

With two designers on staff, Shooting Star Nursery offers design and consultation services tailored to suit your needs. Serving both residential and commercial/landscaper customers, we love to help folks get on the right track to success with regionally appropriate plant suggestions and advice on sustainable practices. Christie or Bonni will come to your site for an assessment and consulting/planning session. They can help flesh out a concept or vision in just about any design style to complement your property, structures and personality, and with maintenance requirements from high to super low. Some of their specialties include: shifting to more drought tolerance, working around deer and other pesky critters, creating habitat for pollinators and birds, naturalistic privacy screens, and considering fire-wise options. They are well versed in the many challenges this valley has to offer, and strive to bring beauty and utility to all spaces — from tiny to expansive.

One of our landscape designers will visit your site to assess and discuss the scope of your project, learn about your goals, and help create a plan for how to achieve them. Many times a rough sketch and/or plant list is all that is needed to articulate your vision and create a planting composition. Hands-on involvement with plant placement services can accompany this approach. When more detail and precision is desired/required, the designer will develop a measured, scaled design back at our office. Our designs are hand drawn and come with a plant list to assist in your plant research. Customers often meet with the designer at the nursery for direct involvement in final plant selection.
On-site consultations can also be used to discuss existing landscapes — new and old. Our designers can identify plants and give maintenance tips, assess and address any issues you may have, answer general questions about your space, and make suggestions for editing/updating plantings.
Please fill out our form to request an appointment, get our current rates, or to discuss your project. Our Design Questionnaire (PDF) can be helpful in considering and articulating what is important to you for your project but is not required.
Shooting Star Nursery designers specialize in landscape design, plant selection, layout, and consultation. We do not provide detailed plans for irrigation, lighting or engineered hardscape such as decks, patios, sidewalks, and retaining walls, but will take them into account in your planting design. We do not install or maintain landscapes, but will offer consultation on maintenance, care, and pruning. We can also recommend professionals to contact for those services.
