    English-themed garden

    McCully House Inn, Jacksonville

We worked in collaboration with Laurie Sager & Associates (Landscape Architecture) and Pacific Roots Landscape on a design for this historic home and inn. The client wanted an English-themed garden that fit into the Jacksonville streetscape and had winter structure and formality that contains a cottage garden of perennial color and texture. All while being deer resistant and keeping interest throughout the seasons. Planted in spring of 2023.

    Lawn Replacement

    Drought tolerant, pollinator friendly yard

A front yard lawn replacement project featuring drought tolerant and pollinator friendly plants.

From the homeowner: “I just wanted to thank you for the planting layout and let you know how wonderful it came out. The yard is so full of color and pollinators already and we’re still early in the spring. It gets complimented a ton by passerby’s and we absolutely love how it has matured.”

    Lawn Replacement

Drought tolerant & low maintenance yard

A front yard lawn replacement project featuring drought tolerant and low maintenance landscaping in Medford.

    All-Season Interest

    Low maintenance front yard

This is a front yard landscape design Shooting Star Nursery did in Ashland where the client wanted no lawn, drought tolerant plants for all season interest, and taking into account occasional deer passing through the neighborhood.

    Pollinator-Friendly Landscaping

    Vista 222 winery

Shooting Star Nursery was contracted for landscape design at Vista 222, an Applegate Valley winery and event venue. Below are before and after photos showing the transformation from grass-covered sloping hillside to inviting terraced pollinator garden that is also deer resistant and drought tolerant. See more photos from this project over the years.

    Monarch & Pollinator Habitat

    Community pollinator gardens

Shooting Star Nursery worked with a landowner and Southern Oregon Monarch Advocates to design a community garden Monarch Waystation, providing year around habitat for native pollinators with a focus on Monarch butterflies. Christie designed the garden with more than 50 different kinds of natives and other pollinator-friendly plants. We have also designed pollinator gardens for the City of Central Point, other Monarch Waystations, private landowners, wineries, and HOA’s.

    Outdoor Education

School gardens throughout the Rogue Valley region

Christie has done many designs, consults and volunteered installations of school gardens at Rogue Valley local schools, including Mae Richardson Elementary, Jewett Elementary, Logos Charter School, D.I.R.T. Park, and Crater High School. One of our passions is getting kids into gardening spaces and outdoor environments for hands-on learning. We have taught classes on the subject and ways to engage kids in the outdoor classroom.
