 blueberries

Our class on Blueberries and Strawberries in containers was a lot of fun!  We helped several customers pot up their own blueberries in a custom mix, containing sulphur, acid fertilizer, and bark, guaranteeing their health and happiness.  We also created some strawberry pots- in a cheery red ceramic pot and even a red rubber boot as strawberry planter!

More classes to come this spring... Can't wait!

We had a great turnout for our first Sat. morning class which covered 'Pruning and Training Fruit Trees'.  Everyone got to enjoy the sunshine, coffee, and muffins, and ask Eric and Scott questions about how to care for their fruit trees.  Our kids and a few others got to play in the sandbox and go for a treasure hunt in the nursery.

We will post the handouts for the class as best we can on the blog. Be sure to check in for those.  We're not out to recreate the wheel so we also included some really informative handouts from OSU on 'Pruning Fruit Trees' and from Fine Gardening on 'Espaliering Fruit Trees'.  Here is last week's Guide to Pruning, Planting, & Training Fruit Trees.

Be sure to pre register for any upcoming classes you are interested in.  Many of them have limited spaces and we were more full than we expected this past Saturday!  Looking forward to seeing you!

Saturday Morning Classes

Asian Pear Espaliered at Shooting Star Nursery, Central PointOur 'Saturday mornings at Shooting Star Nursery' series of garden classes begins this Sat. the 9th at 10 am.  We hope you will join us to learn how to make the most of your fruit trees. With just a little knowledge of how to prune and plant them you can get a greater yield, get more varieties in a smaller space, or learn how to espalier one against a fence or wall.  Our classes are informal and to the point.  Come join us for coffee and snacks and take a walk around the nursery while we show you how to deal with different kinds and sizes of fruit trees.

For our spring series of classes, we will have some kid activities, like treasure hunts and sandboxes, to keep the kiddos occupied while you take a class or just peruse and shop.   We would also love any suggestions for classes you would like to see on the schedule.  If fruit trees aren't your interest, check out the whole list of classes here.  Be sure to register before the class fills up, some have a limited size.  Looking forward to seeing you!
